other day’s post related to the “awesomeness” of Windows 8 https://twitter.com/bleroy/status/281510867995074561 Followed by: https://twitter.com/bleroy/status/281512865561735169 That about sums it up…]]>
Arstechnica post, titled: “Windows 8: Such a disappointment”
The general feeling I’m getting from all of the discussions on this particular point is that people, for some reason, see the future of computing as me having a 40″ screen in front of me, filled with big letters so I can only read a paragraph at a time without scrolling, and only being able to see two apps at once — all because the tablet I have on the other side of the room on the table has a 9 inch screen and apple sells a lot of them]]>

OR? Guess that’s what you get for “FREE Design, Hosting, and Marketing!” (by the company who built the ordering system).<]]>
Metro Modern UI and Desktop) in Windows 8 is a real fail.<]]>
Ethan Marcotte is puking over Microsoft’s new “Windows 8 MSN” homepage. You see Ethan coined the term “Responsive Web Design” (RWD for short). What is RWD? It is an approach to web design where the goal is to provide an optimal viewing experience to all visitors. This works beautifully on many sites, but Microsoft has got it ALL WRONG with their MSN redesign. Let me show you what I’m talking about. You can only see the new Windows 8 MSN site, well on Windows 8 with Internet Explorer 10. It has to be that combo, other browsers don’t seem to work even if you are on Windows 8. Ok, here’s the site when viewed from IE10 on the Windows 8 desktop. Looks like a Metro “Modern UI” app, which depending what you think of big colored blocks, could look nice or ugly. Anyway, here it is: That’s at a window size of a little over 970 pixels. Now for fun, let’s see what it looks like if I shrink the window down a bit. Based on the principles of RWD, the site should provide an optimal viewing experience. What do you think? Awesome, huh? Now that screenshot was taken with the window width being 970px. So optimal. Now I can see the site on 1/3 of my window. I guess I’m only supposed to view the site on a new Surface tablet or a Windows Phone, huh? Screw us that have Windows 8 on real machines? Those of us who need applications other than Office and need more than one window at a time? Way to go Microsoft. This is just embarrassing. Look, if you want a “mobile” version make the transition at say 480px; 970px is just insane.<]]>
Look at the following schedule. Based on it, when would you expect the “Extra Magic Hours” to be for October 7th?
So, again, the question. If you went to the park on Saturday (October 6th), would you expect to be able to stay at the park until 3am on Sunday (10/7) or would you expect to go to the park on Sunday (October 7th) and stay until 3am on Monday (10/8)?
I’ll let that question loom a bit.
Based on the title of this post, you probably guessed the answer.
The “Extra Magic Hours” are Sunday to Monday, not Saturday to Sunday. In what world does this schedule make sense? This is the Disney World website… 12am to 3am on Sunday is “Saturday night.” I guess in Disney World 2am is actually night time of the previous day. Unreal.
The ordering of the times is a huge fail. Notice how 12am – 3am on Sunday comes RIGHT AFTER the 8am to 12am on Saturday?
I don’t get it.
Here’s the best part of the story. When we asked about it (spoke to a guy back at our hotel), we were basically told that we were “stupid” (in so many words) and that we are the only ones to think that 12am – 3am on Sunday would be right after Saturday. Really? What do you think?
Anyway, the moral of the story is that with Disney, throw logic out the window.
This is a huge website fail.
It still would have been dumb, but one way to rectify this schedule is to move the 12am – 3am on the October 7th AFTER the 8am – 12am instead. That would have at least shown that the intent was to have the Extra Magic Hours on Monday morning.
